Marbella though is one of the liveliest towns on the Mediterranean, with both a large local population, and a large influx of summer time tourists, especially during the high season. A fabulous picturesque old town steeped in Vandalizing charm. The old town is a labyrinth of cobbled streets hosting beautiful bodegas and charming restaurants like La Comedian - owned by 2 gay Belgium's, who really do know how to deliver excellent cuisine, and a fun relaxed, romantic atmosphere. Marbella will definitely bring out the romantic in you with it's idyllic setting and the scent of the orange blossoms - but don't be surprised if just around the corner there is a fiesta,as Marbella is notorious for it's street parties, as it lends it self ideally to open air flamenco in the Plaza de Naranjas.

Nearby Puerto Banus is hive of activity, accommodating a vast variety of bars, restaurants and designer shops - so if you want to treat yourself or you're loved one this is the place to go! During the day all the "beautiful people" shop til they drop - it is the place to see and be seen! OR You could pause a while for a `latte´ or sip a glass of champagne while watching the ferraris and luxury boats saunter past flaunting their passengers. It's great fun - but usually at a price!
Marbella town does have great gay bars, in the old town and a very prominent one right next to the taxi rank on Avenida del Mar, right in the centre of town – known locally as the taxi bar; very handy for showing a new ´friend¨ the way home.
Marbella is a very diverse place where people can be free to express themselves. It would not be unusual for 2 men to be enjoying themselves together on a beach, hand in hand, while families lunched nearby and kids frolicked in the sea. The scene summed up Marbella in a instant for me – very diverse, very cosmopolitan and very tolerant.
15km to the east of Marbella (and accessible by trips) is the sandy beaches and sand dunes at Cabopino. Here there is a nudist beach and a gay beach, with its own chiringuito. You will find by simply walking from Cabopino Port in a westerly direction and well, you will recognize it when you arrive.
For great nightlife, you will find the popular tourist and holiday resort of Torremolinos, to the east. This is home to many gay bars and throbbing clubs, plus another gay beach with parties going on throughout the night time. Further to the east, past the airport, you will find the city of Malaga, again home to plenty more gay nightlife, although this time with a distinctly Spanish appeal.
