Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (or Las Palmas for short) is the largest city in the Canary Islands, and the 9th most populated city in Spain. Founded in 1478, today the city is amazingly cosmopolitan and gay friendly, and lies alongside five fantastic beaches - Las Canteras, Las Alcaravaneras, San Cristobal, El Confital and La Laja. It also has a large seaport called Puerto de la Luz. Owing to its location between two continents, and its importance as a tourist hotspot, many foreign migrating workers have moved to the city, making it extremely multi cultural - and including settlers from Africa, China, Russia and the Middle East.
